Who is the teacher?

What's this class about?

It's about improving your skills in language: reading, writing, and communication. That means you'll be reading more challenging text (sometimes that will mean video, audio, or visual text), writing (with an emphasis on academic writing like essays), and sharing your understanding and opinions informally (discussion and talks) and formally (presentations and debates).

The theme of this year is voice and choice. Through the activities in class, you'll develop your language style in writing and communication for different situations. You'll also practice how to make good academic choices for learning to use your strengths and improve your weaknesses.

What's an important thing to know?

Making mistakes shows you are trying and learning. It's better if you don't make the same mistake again, but you'll probably repeat some of your mistakes--I know I have. When you are confused, or you can't figure out how to recover, talk to someone: a friend, family, or ME. I want to hear your questions in class, by email, or in the "comments" for your assignment.
